FAQs

  • Not at this time; all of our teardrops are made to order. We have one completed build we use as a model for showing.

  • Don’t be limited by our “pricing & options” list! If you have something in mind that you would like included in your custom build, we’re happy to do it for you. Just reach out and we can provide you with a quote for whatever it may be.

  • Each build takes approximately 4 weeks. Our lead time averages 6 months; please reach out for a more precise timeline.

  • Yes; we live in St. Paul and our teardrops are built here start-to-finish. We source our materials locally as much as possible.

  • Fully loaded (full 15 gal. water tank, cooler, camping supplies, everything), the gross weight is 1500lbs.

  • The chassis has a leaf-spring suspension with either 2,000 or 3,500 lb GVWR. Weight is chosen based on your specific teardrop needs.

  • Please refer to your vehicle’s user manual to determine it's towing capacity. One of the benefits of a teardrop is that you don't need a truck to haul it! A smaller SUV is usually sufficient, but we can't speak to your specific vehicle.

  • No special winterization required. It’s always a good idea to remove the battery for colder temps if the teardrop isn’t being used, and be sure to empty the water tank if you have one. We likewise recommend an all-weather cover when stored outside.

  • Totally depends on how much power you’re using. With the lighting, fan, and e-cooler all being used at expected levels, we have found it to last up to 4 days. The e-cooler power consumption also greatly depends on outside temperatures. If you connect the teardrop to city power, the battery re-charges very quickly (typically a couple of hours).

  • 300 lbs. If you need more, we can get a different rack for you.

  • UV-protected polycarbonate. Equal in transparency to glass, but 200x stronger, shatter & impact resistant.

  • More than likely, yes. Our galley door is designed to clear a height of 6’2”, but we can easily extend this for taller customers (no extra cost). The queen size mattress is 80” long (6’8”); that is your only hard & fast constraint.

  • This will be highly individual — Whatever you find comfortable for sleeping on a queen size mattress! If you want a bit more space, we can do that too. Adding a foot widthwise will change the queen to a king. Adding a couple feet lengthwise can accommodate sleeping space for dogs or children at the foot of the bed, or even a bunk bed. See our Pricing & Options page for costs related to this and examples that we've done!

  • We know the color swatches can be hard to visualize. On our Gallery page, you'll see examples of Hemlock Green, Cardinal Red, Terracotta, Award Blue, Slate Gray, and Sandstone. We'll give you a little discount if you pick a color we haven't done-- it's more fun for us!

  • We do not personally offer financing options. A recreational vehicle loan is a good option if need be.

  • Yes; we ask for a 20% down payment at the time of order placement. The remaining amount is due at the time you pick up your teardrop.

  • Cash or cashier's check

  • When you pick up your teardrop, it will be registered with the state of MN as a recreational trailer and have a license plate with current tabs. You will be given a Bill of Sale at the time of purchase. The only thing that you might need to wait on is the title, as we wait to receive it in the mail from the DMV. Once we get it, your next step is bringing it into a DMV to have it transferred to your name.

  • We don’t charge sales tax; when you transfer over title ownership, the MN DMV will charge a vehicle sales tax.

  • We guarantee our work for 1 year. Beyond that year, we will still strive to provide you with ongoing support in whatever capacity you need, as best we can.

  • Email us at driftwoodtrailers@gmail.com to arrange a visit to see the teardrop in person (or virtually, if it's more convenient/ you're not local). Once you’ve decided on your customization options, we’ll email you your personalized quote. We request the down payment when the quote is agreed upon (this can be with cash, personal/ cashier's check, or PayPal for an additional fee), which will guarantee your ‘spot in line’. We’ll keep you updated throughout the building process (if you want) until it’s ready for pick-up!

  • To attach the teardrop to your vehicle, you'll need a plug-in to accomplish a 7-pin wire harness (if you prefer a 4-pin just let us know) and a 2" ball hitch.
